Renault Duster review with price and specs

Renault had really struggled in the Indian auto market . They had joined with M&M and the logan didn’t create a right image for them. And then the vehicles that they launched on their own like the Koleos , The Fluence, The pulse haven’t created too many ripples either. They need something big. Well this isn’t exactly big, it’s a compact SUV but will it be the game changer for Renault.  Well the Duster has hit quite a sweet spot. There isn’t anything else like it around at its price point.  If we are to make comparisons, there are other compact SUV’s like the Premier Rio, but that’s very small and it has a much lower price point or you have Skoda yeti which is a far more premium. Yes we can say that this is in the same price bracket as Mahindra Scorpio but then they are two different animals.  This compact SUV looks a whole lot bigger than you would imagine. It looks every bit an SUV, with the flair wheel arches, scuff plates, huge clearance, and the metal roof rails. The squarish headlights and the chrome grill give the Renault Duster a premium look. The side is pretty straight forward with no nonsense doors and no styling flourishes. The body swells in a nice way out to the tail lights which are quite small but enhance by the best effect on the body. The chrome bar on the tail gate proudly carries the name in bold.

The Duster interior realizes you  where the cost cuttings are. There are simple handles and no rubber beading on the door.  The interiors are looking like Logan but it still doesn’t feel premium  enough. The plastics are shiny and hard but the quality looks like its from lower level. The seats are flattened hard too but they do offer enough support. Now whether the cabin lacks in class it makes a bit practicality. Coming about the storage space. A dash top storage about the central console, 5 cup holders and pretty decent side pockets however they are only good for maps or books but not for the bottle.  Luggage space is good for its size. The flat floor doesn’t have any intrusions  and the floor isn’t too high which makes loading easy. You can increase the luggage are too by down the one piece backrest of the rear seat.  However there are some chocks on this interior  like the A/C controls are behind the gear lever so it is a little difficult to use.  Another great difficulty is the mirror adjustment controls are under the hand brake so you have to pull the hand brake up to access it easily.  The top end of Renault Duster will get leather seats, seat height adjust, Rear A/C vent, forward panels on the door and airbags. The rear A/C unit is an extra add-on for India and it looks just like it was an afterthought too.  The Duster will be available in both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol will be a 1.6 liter engine with 102.5bhp and 14.8 kgm of torque. The diesel will be a 1.5 liter engine available in two states , a 108 bhp and 84 bhp with two different price points of course.  However the performance doesn’t feel as Linea and Fluence, there is quite a bit of lag and you do a push part to 2000 RPM   you will feel the kick of this engine.  The Duster has 1308Kg weight means that real world performance is actually pretty good.

With the 6th gear the Duster cruise very comfortable. And though the gearbox is light it is a bit notchy to use and the clutch feels heavy too.  You can really through the duster around the corner and have fun with it, body comfortable and tire grip well  and you really get a confidence that Duster is beyond your expectations. The space at the back is very good and legroom, the headroom is the really best part of this car. It handles a nice flat drive and the suspension work widely too which is a great bonus. Renault claims that the Duster diesel engine will give around 19km/l   for the 110 bhp and 20km/l for the 84bhp version.  Well it looks like an SUV, it got a good ground clearance and as you can feel  you can do a fair bit of offroading as well. But still its so car like in manner, it's light and  easy to drive when you are in the city or when you are in traffic conditions and the ride and handling is simply superb. It's got good performance, its got a decent size boot, and it is comfortable and spacious in the back  seat. The pricing is well , we feel that the Renault wants it to make that big impact and this needed to be a little more aggressivly price. Still there is no taking away from the fact that they have hit a sweet spot and this is the very little capable SUV.  The Ex-showroom price of Renaul Duster for the petrol engine is Rs.7.19Lakh and the diesel engine is Rs.7.99 Lakh. So for all of you out there who wanted that SUV and thought that is either too big and bulky to drive and thought they are too expensive, here something that fits perfectly and we give him a thumps up.
